NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) spans the month of November which ends on a Wednesday this year. Because of that, Wednesdays are the days I’ll be posting updates every week.
As a first-time participant, I have pledged to write 50,000-word words of the first draft of a new novel in 30 days. Each week, I will report my word count totals as part of a “Wednesday Weigh-In” series. This video is my 1st progress report.
My word count right now is, 2,571
At a minimum, I need to write about 1,667 words every day to reach the 50k threshold. Given that metric, I’m already ahead by about 904 words! Hopefully, I can keep this up!
Taking Stock of things so far
So far, so good! My goals remain:
- Complete the first draft of my manuscript
- Strengthen my ties to the wider writing community.
I started a YouTube channel to document my ‘novel writing adventure’. I’m Quartknee K on YouTube. Below is the video version of this post:

What is NaNoWriMo?
NaNoWriMo is the abbreviated name of National Novel Writing Month. It’s a month-long event for writers of all kinds. NaNo takes place every November, and this is my first year of participation. Essentially, it’s a contest that you have with yourself to write at least 50,000 words in 30 days. My “I Signed Up” post has more details about what I’ve pledged to accomplish this year.
